Winsford is one of the larger towns in Cheshire West and among the least well served by private healthcare. Almost everything private in this part of the county is in Chester, Northwich or across in Manchester, which means a car and half a morning.
A 20-minute consultation with a GMC-registered GP costs £40 and happens wherever you are. Appointments run 6am to 10pm, seven days a week, and any sick note, prescription or referral letter is included in that price rather than added to it.
We are based a few miles up the Weaver at Northwich. That does not mean you come to us — we are fully remote and there is no waiting room — but the roads you would otherwise be driving are ones we know.
Winsford's acute hospital is Leighton at Crewe, around ten miles south. The Countess of Chester is roughly eighteen miles the other way. Neither is a short trip without a car, and the bus journey to either is substantially longer than the map suggests.
The town grew quickly, and largely by design — significant overspill housing from Liverpool and Manchester was built here through the 1960s and 70s, expanding a salt town into something several times its previous size in under two decades. That history still shapes the place: housing stock of a particular vintage, an industrial estate that remains one of the largest employers in the borough, and a population that is younger on average than the Cheshire stereotype suggests.
It is also a town of real contrasts within a very short distance. Parts of Winsford sit among the more economically pressed neighbourhoods in Cheshire West and Chester, while the villages a couple of miles out are comfortably off. Borough-level health data flattens that completely and tells you very little about any particular street.
Shift work at the industrial estate and the distribution sites along the A54 brings the pattern that goes with it — disrupted sleep, irregular eating, and blood pressure and weight creeping up without anyone having flagged it. Early appointments before a shift are often more use than anything else we offer here.
A younger demographic than much of Cheshire means more contraception, mental health and children's presentations, and less of the long-term condition review that dominates elsewhere in the county.
Getting to Leighton or the Countess without a car is the practical barrier. For follow-up, results discussions and repeat prescriptions in particular, doing it remotely is not a convenience here so much as the difference between it happening and not.

Chest pain, stroke symptoms, sudden breathlessness or a suspected fracture mean 999 or A&E — not a remote consultation. Neither hospital is a short trip by bus, which is worth knowing before you need one.
Bowel screening from 50 — a kit through the post, minutes to complete, and one of the few screening tests proven to save lives. Return rates are lowest where outcomes are worst, which makes it the highest-value free thing here.
Cervical screening from 25 and breast screening from 50 are both free and both matter more than any private panel.

It means the diagnosis can usually be made from your history and photographs, and that treatment can be arranged safely without examining you. Where a condition is not marked treatable online, it is because examination is the diagnosis — listening to a chest, feeling an abdomen, examining an ear or a joint — or because a procedure or device is needed.
Yes, where there is a genuine bacterial infection — cellulitis, impetigo, bacterial urine infections, confirmed strep throat. We will also frequently tell you that you do not need one. Most sore throats, coughs, colds and earaches are viral, and an antibiotic gives you the side effects with none of the benefit.
If your problem turns out to be genuinely outside what we can do remotely, the doctor will tell you straight away, point you to the right service, and refund your fee in full. We would rather do that than fill twenty minutes to justify the charge.
