About Dr Khan

Dr Mohammad Zubair Khan is a GMC-registered general practitioner and the founder of Cheshire Clinics. He holds MBChB and MRCGP, and his registration can be verified on the GMC's public register under number 7563469.

He founded Cheshire Clinics after years of NHS general practice, out of a specific frustration: that the ten-minute appointment is too short for a great deal of what patients actually bring, and that the people who most need unhurried care are usually the ones least able to get it.

Why twenty minutes

Almost everything about how this service works follows from the appointment length. Twenty minutes is enough to take a proper history, to ask the second and third question rather than only the first, and to explain a plan in a way that survives the walk to the car park.

It is also long enough to say no properly — to explain why a particular treatment is not appropriate, rather than issuing it because there is no time to have the conversation.

Languages

Dr Khan consults natively in English, Urdu and Punjabi. For patients whose first language is not English, this removes a barrier that is easy to underestimate: symptoms get described more accurately, medication instructions land properly, and sensitive subjects actually get raised rather than avoided.

Where another language is needed, consultations are held through a professional medical interpreting service rather than through a family member.

Clinical approach

Cheshire Clinics is a remote service, and Dr Khan is direct about what that means. Some things cannot be assessed safely without a physical examination, and some things belong with the NHS — anything urgent, anything needing hands-on care, and the free services that already exist and work well.
